Returning expired BRP card?

Hi all,
My husband and I were on Tier 2 visa for 5 years (March2014-March 2019) and we got our ILR in March 2019.
My daughter was born April 2016 so she had BRP like us with expiry date of April 2019.
When we applied for ILR in March 2019, we did not apply for her. Then we applied for British citizenship for her after we got ILR in March 2019.
We received her certificate of registration as British citizen last week. It states :' If you have a BRP card, you should return it for secure destruction once you have received your certificate of British citizenship'.
My question is should I return the expired BRP card or it is not needed?
-- If yes, is it too late and will we get fine? (8 working days since we received the certificate)
-- Her BRP was expired in April 2019.
