Hello Members,

I have ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain) since 2013, i married abroad and brought my wife to UK in last year 2018 on Spouse Visa. My wife gave birth to a baby girl two months ago in UK. I have following questions:

1). Am i right to think that the child is British Citizen otherwise by decedent by birth therefore i just need to pick up UK Passport application form from post office and send it through to HMPO (Passport Office)?

2). The Guidance notes of UK application form says in section 8, i need to give information of ILR under EU Settlement scheme and needs to provide 16 digits UAN (Unique Application Number) but problem is that my ILR is not issued under EU Settlement as it is an old ILR issued in year 2013 and i do not have 16 digits UAN however, my ILR card has only 9 digits on top right. Therefore i am confused.

3). Could someone kindly guide me what supporting documents are required to apply for child first British passport born to ILR Father (NOT under EU Scheme).

4). I also heard UK passport Office demands for father Original ILR when child applies for first adult passport? Is it really true? As it does not make sense why a child needs to prove his British nationality claim again at time of getting first adult British passport when they already have child British passport? Why HMPO demands to see father ILR again. This does not make sense because father returns the ILR at time Naturalization how he can provide original ILR 16 years into future?

I shall appreciate if someone could assist me in above. Thank you in advance.

1. Yes, correct, apply for a passport directly.

2. Ignore it then if it does not apply to you!!

3. Have you read the guidance notes that you get with the passport application form??

4. The child British citizenship is purely based on you already holding ILR. Simply being born in the UK does not make a child British. It is either parent holding ILR or being British that determines the childs status. Suggest keep copies, certified of your ILR BRP if you plan on applying for citizenship yourself. HMPO can ask for anything at any time to determine someones status.
