Hi All,

I've tried to search this board for answers to my questions but haven't found them, so here goes;

1) I'll be outside of the UK when I become eligible and was wondering if I can apply for citizenship from outside the UK?
With the online application as I understand I'll have to post my documents and give biometrics at post office, so it seems logically I can't apply from outside the UK. Is this correct or if anyone has applied, what do I need to take care of?

2) How do I prove the future intentions requirements? Say for instance, If I don't have a job and I'm temporarily sharing a house with a friend when I apply, how do I prove I have an established home?

3) Once I've applied, if I have plans to travel out of the UK for a few months would I be able to do that? Would I have to declare this even if I didn't have a concrete plan on how long I'll be away for? Will this affect my future intentions requirement?

4) If I want to travel after I apply, is applying through NCS the better option?

Any light shed on any of the above would be of great help!

The NCS is closed.

Reading your post, it sounds like you actually live abroad and would like to apply for British Citizenship.

You can't apply for BC from abroad. They even review applications even after applicant get the BC and if they find deception in the application, they can remove it. The consequences can be terrible as when they take away the citizenship, the effect is retroactive.

Settle in the UK first, then apply for BC when you are ready. Receiving mail at a friend's address is not living in the UK :/

I don't live abroad. I've lived in the UK for the last 9 years and got ILR. I'm planning to take some time off and travel hence my questions.

1. One of the requirements for citizenship is to be living in the country for at least 12 months after obtaining ILR and have no more than 90 days of absences in the preceding 12 months from the date of application.
2. You don't need to prove that.
3. You may travel once you apply. No. No.
But you'll have to book the oath taking ceremony with 21 days of date of approval and attend it within 90 days of approval.

1. Yes I'm aware of those requirements and I will satisfy them. I just wasn't sure if I'd be able to apply online while away on holiday(so my absences are less), then come back to the UK later and give biometrics etc. How long after you've applied online do you have to give your biometrics?

Try google on how much time you can get away with

I cant seem to find the info unfortunately. I'm in a bit of an urgent situation to book my return holiday flights if anyone can give any advice on whether I can apply while online away on holiday.

If you apply online while your away, how do you expect to mention your current absence from UK on the date of application?
I am not sure but maybe the IP address will not even allow to do that.
But lets hear other opinions/views.

Also, the first question the AN form asks:

“Are you in UK?”

Form AN asks for last 10 years employment. State all with dates. If you were unemployed for the last 10 years leave it blank.

Are you filling the paper form?

Just state “unemployed” in the “what is your occupation” if there is no other space.

I have a few questions whcih I haven't really been able to find answers to looking through the forum so here goes, hoping someone can clarify these for me before I submit the application.
Background information about my application. I'm applying online filling out form AN on the basis of 5 year residence in the UK and 1 year ILR.

1) Do I need my OLD passport (the passport I used when I first entered UK) with me physicaly at my biometrics appointment? I don't have it on me at the moment but I can upload scans of all the visas/stamp pages with my appication online. I can also provide employers reference letters with my applciation to prove residence. Would this be sufficient or do I still need my passport physicaly? I have my current passport of course, I only want to check about my old passport.

2) Profession and nationality of Referees: So I'm a bit confused about Referee requirements.
In the Form AN itself it says one referee can be of any nationality but in the below document - Nationality policy information it says they should be of british nationality - which ones correct?https://assets.publishing.service.gov.u ... 1.0EXT.pdf
Also if the person has the profession Testing team lead within Engineering and has Bachelors and MSc degree would they be ok as the professional referee? The list I have seen has Engineer (with professional qualification) but i also read on one of the posts on this forum that software engineer is not an accepted profession, so it confused me!

The other one must only be an acceptable professional.
A software engineer is not a acceptable professional unless he has a professional qualification e.g a Chartered IT Professional

Thank you Zimba for the response. I contacted the support centre while i was waiting for a response on this forum and they said PCNs for parking contravention need to be declared as well just fyi.

What support center ?? All UKVI lines are manned by third parties and their advice has no value and in fact they dish out incorrect advice regularly. No records of PCNs issued are kept anywhere under your name. Declaring PCNs is pointless.
