Can wife get citizenship after I get?

Post by pr1 » Wed Oct 16, 2019 8:45 pm

I will be applying for ILR soon under Tier 2 5 year route. After I get ILR I will register my UK born daughter as a British citizen. My wife is on Tier-2 dependent Visa and has only completed 2 years in UK. So I cannot apply for her ILR, I will extend her Tier-2 general dependent visa.
Now after 1 year I will apply for British citizenship. After I get it can my wife also register as a British citizen? Or does she have to wait until she completes 5 years on her Visa then apply for ILR then after 1 year apply for citizenship?

Your wife will need to wait until she has been issued with ILR after completing 5 years on her Tier 2 dependent visa. If by that time you have been granted British citizenship there will be no need to wait 12 months before qualifying for BC, assuming she meets all the standard requirements.
