Returning BRP for child

Post by trueindian2013 » Fri Dec 20, 2019 5:53 pm

Hi
My child became British citizen recently and received British citizenship certificate. Do I need to return her BRP? It dont say so on the approval letter unlike for an adult.
Thanks

I'll be in similar situation next year (kids MN1 process) so I made a note of the following based on what I saw on this forum (I'm not 100% sure if it's different for kids & adults but just made a note):

After registration, kid's tier 2 BRP needs to be cut & sent back to UKVI within 5 days to avoid £1000 fine (take a photo of cut card, send it in recorded delivery and keep receipt for future reference).

After receiving British passport, renounce Indian citizenship and apply for OCI.
My advice is based on personal research/experience, so pls check relevant UKVI sources.

Hi, thanks for the reply. But am referring to the BRP issued for ILR not tier 2. Do that matter? Only reason I ask, both my wife and kid got citizenship at the same time. My wife's approval letter states to return the BRP card but my daughter's confirmation letter don't mention about it.

Search on this forum. I think someone recently mentioned that it's irrelevant to send ILR BRP back.

Ignore above advice. Looks like they do need to return it as per below post:

Ok, thanks srsw

@sahajveer, check on the British citizenship posts there is a thread on timelines that'll give you a good idea. Mine took roughly 2 months for approval.
