Expired BRP applying MN1 for children

My kids have valid ILR but their BRP card is expired (over 5months now).
Is it ok to apply for British citizenship directly without renewing the BRP card? their ILR is valid in home office records as per UK boarder officer.

OR I shoud have to renew BRP before applying for UK Citizenship?

You should have received threats demanding that their BRPs be renewed. Failure to apply for renewal can result in a fine of up to £1,000 (or so the Home Office says). Have you changed address and failed to tell the Home Office? The first step in enforcement should be to send a reminder.

NO need to renew
