Hello everyone.. my application for my British citizenship application has been approved. I have booked my ceremony next month. My problem now is my passport got a middle name on it. With my biometric there was no middle name. When I book for ceremony I saw my certificate and there was no middle name on it .. my problem is when I’m going to apply for British passport, would it be okay that my foreign passport name is not matching with the British citizenship certificate??

I called the HMPO recently for a similar question...

They have no flexibility when it comes to the names in the foreign passport. It must match the BC Certificate. You have to ensure 100% consistency between both documents in order to obtain the British passport hassle free.

Otherwise, they will ask you to get your name changed in your foreign passport. Good luck with that as in many jurisdictions it's either difficult, expensive or impossible to make such a change.

So the main idea is you can get the BC Citizenship with some mismatch in your name but you will not get the British passport. Or you won't get it easily.

Yeah I called passport office and they said exactly what you have said. I even called home office Liverpool and they said that I have to fill a form called form RR. I’ve checked it and I have to pay £250 because is my own mistake. I’m going to see solicitor soon about this as on the form they asking for BC certificate number. I don’t have the certificate yet until I attend the ceremony. My biometric has no middle name that’s why I put exactly the same on my application for BC.

It has to match your passport, not the biometric. We don't care about the biometric as you will have to return it when you get the British Citizenship.

Now, £250 it's not a big deal to fix an issue of this nature. Don't need to spend further money on solicitors. They will just charge you more than £250.

You can call the council, see if they can get you the certificate number. Explain it has an error and pay the £250 to get it fixed. Honestly, the last thing you want is the British Citizenship with an inconsistent names in your documents as you won't get the British passport even if you are a British citizen.

I know £250 is not really to bad. It’s just hassle and stressful really. Only because I have to give my biometric back to the home office after ceremony ,which leave me with no status as I couldn’t apply for British passport until they change the certificate.
