Ancestry + Irish citizen

I have confused myself with all the info out there so just wondering if anyone can provide clear info of my situation makes me eligible for naturalisation:

I’ve lived in UK since 2011 as Canadian citizen with Youth Mobility 2011-2013 then with UK Ancestry 2014-2019.

In 2018, I attained Irish citizenship therefore didn’t need the Ancestry visa anymore. I’m assuming that this would be accepted by HO to meet eligibility in lieu of ILR as I’m Irish and don’t need a permanent resident document?

My degree was done in Canada so also assume this would be accepted for English language component. Would I need to submit Canadian passport as well?

I also wonder if references would be accepted if they live outside the U.K.? I know people in the accepted professions but none are resident here.

My husband also came as dependent on my Ancestry visa. Now he has pre-settled status since EEA family permit was much cheaper than ILR for him. With brexit uncertainty for him, I would like to apply for British citizenship so we don’t need to worry about pre-settled status issues.

Thanks for any advice!

How did you become Irish?

Did you inform HO of your change in status??

Your husband clock reset for Settled status, counting from the date you became Irish.

Irish through my grandmother born in Belfast.

HO has been notified.

That’s why British citizenship looks like the most appealing situation for us since the clock reset for him getting an EEA permit rather than ILR. He’s not applying for British citizenship right now, just me.

Was this through the FBR registration process or.....?

Unclear what you meant by this below, hence my question.

Thanks.

It was through FBR.

My concern at the moment is if we need to spend time outside the U.K. for any long period, my husband’s status may be jeopardised with just pre-settled status. With Brexit going forward it is becoming uncertain for the non EU spouse of an Irish citizen

I know there was a big cost involved with Ancestry ILR, however for your husbands sake, that would have been the best option for both of you given the uncertainty around Brexit and to secure residency. How long has your husband been in the UK??

For citizenship, I am not sure if you would need 5 years residence as an Irish citizen. Perhaps one of the other mods/members would have a better idea.

Unfortunately we can’t change his situation re applying for ILR so we’re looking at this as a way forward for now.

Thanks for your help! Hopefully someone will have some further advice too.
