I have a bit complicated question :
My Indian passport has my surname in the Given name column. So basically my first name and surname is under Given name on my passport. And Surname column is blank.
I never bothered to get it corrected. but now as i applied for British citizenship , wondering what would be the procedure to get it right on British passport ?
I am thinking to get it corrected on my Indian passport meanwhile i am waiting for the decision. and contact home office may be with new corrected Indian passport .
Please advice what can be my best bet . Thanks you !

Hello
You are going to enter in a world of pain if you don't get this fixed.
Here is the issue: when you apply for British Citizenship they are very tolerant about these kind of mistakes. Misspelling, switched given names, inconsistencies... They don't see them or they don't care too much.
However, once you apply for British Passport, that would be with HMPO, they have absolutely zero tolerance. If a single letter is different between your foreign passport and the certificate of naturalisation, your passport application will be stuck forever.
No matter what, you have to ensure that there is 100% consistency between your Indian passport and the certificate of naturalisation.
I recommend to anyone in this situation to sort out the foreign passport first, then any PR/ILR issued by the Home Office in order to match the corrected passport then only apply for British Citizenship.

Should i get it corrected on indian passport now and once i got my application accepted then should i contact home office with new indian passport ?
Please advice if anyone has any knowledge . Thank you

The main question is: when you applied for the BC, how did you write your name on the application?
And: how is your name written on your residence card (PR or ILR)?
The same way you wrote your name on the application, it will be on the certificate of naturalisation. That has to be correct or your will have hard time getting the British passport later.
If your name is correct everywhere, including in the application, but incorrect only in the passport that you are going fix, that's much better.
But usually I have seen errors on passports creeping everywhere including to residence cards, certificates of naturalisation... etc

On BC Application i wrote my name : First name under first name and surname under surname.
This is how i wrote in all application i made with home office since beginning. But home office always used my name according to Indian passport on all biomatric cards regardless (obviously)
So my PR card has my name same way as my passport (first name and surname is under surname column and nothing under Surname column)

My wife had similar issue. It started with a mistake on her passport and it crept to all her Home Office documents and even in her driving license.
We started by correcting her passport first. Then, we contacted the Home Office to correct her BRP. Then, we corrected her driving license, bank... etc.
Then only, she is ready to apply for BC.
But once you apply for BC with a messed paperwork, you can't go back.
You have to convince the HMPO that you can't fix it.
