Hello Everyone,

I and my wife are in the UK on Tier 2 General visa since March 2015. We have now become eligible for ILR and will be applying soon. Our 4 year old son was born in the UK and once me and/or my wife receives ILR , we can apply to register him as a British citizen(MN1) under section 3(1).We expect my and wife's ILR (premium service) to be completed by mid-March.
However, the problem is that we need to travel outside the UK in early April and if we apply for my son's MN1 registration mid-march, the UK Home Office guidance asks to submit his original passport. He currently holds an Indian passport on which he has made number of international visits over the last 4 years. Is there any provision to not submit the original passport of the child during MN1 registration process or ensure we are returned the original passport within a week of application?

TIA.

A UK born child is registered under section 1(3) not 3(1).

If your child has a valid dependent visa to re-enter the UK, then free to travel.
