National Insurance

Hi. I am reading the latest guidance notes, AN 3 year spouse route.
Good character, states tax & NI records may be checked with HMRC.

Somewhere else I read, just in order for the relevant period.

Further down the form, for self employed applicants it makes a firmer requirement for tax & NI affairs to be up to date.

I’ve worked but earned below the thresholds. I topped up & bought a year, I am shortly to top up another 3 years equalling 4 years. But I’ll be missing the earliest year & this last tax year which I’d say is important is not ready yet.

Any ideas?

Thank you

Not an issue as top-ups are voluntary payments.

Thank you

I found on the bottom of the AN paper form
Section 10
Evidence covering the relevant period
So shortfalls are acceptable?

Argument upon refusal (if)
The health surcharge was paid !

Note that NHS Health Surcharge for visa applicants and NI contribution shortfalls are totally separate.
Shortfalls in NI contributions are related to the level of state pension you are accruing. It is not compulsory to make top ups and therefore there is no issue when you are applying for naturalisation.
