I would like to thank everyone one Here (immigrationboards
), You Legends are true heroes. I have few questions about applying for British citizenship by neutralization for Non-EU Family member. I have been fishing for information on forums but couldn’t find anything solid. Thought to have this thread for folks with similar case like mine.

A little back story;
I am an Egyptian citizen.
I arrived in the UK on 11/09/2012 on General student visa (Tier 4) Valid from 25/05/2012 until 03/01/2016.
I got Married to Italian citizen in the UK on 08/10/2015.
Granted Family Member – Eu Residence (Residence Card) valid from 19/05/2016 until 19/05/2021
The normal route is hold Residence card of a family member for five years and then apply for (ILR) ,once granted (ILR) hold for 12 months and then apply for citizenship by naturalization.
However, With the new EU Settlement Scheme introduced by UK Gov, Me (NON-EU family member of EU Citizen) and my Italian wife both applied for and both been granted Settled Status.
I received email from Home Office on 2nd May 2019 with letter attached saying “I am pleased to inform you that your application to the EU Settlement Scheme has been successful and that you have been granted Indefinite Leave in the United Kingdom under Appendix EU to the Immigration Rules. This is also referred to as settled status. If you were in the UK on the date of your application, that is Indefinite Leave to Remain. If you were outside the UK on the date of your application, that is Indefinite Leave to Enter. Your status takes effect from the date of this letter, which can be found above”.
I have been continuously living the in the UK since I entered as students in 2012 only few vacations per year but still within the limit set be Home Office.
My English is good so I am not worried about passing the English Test (I didn’t finish my degree with university and resumed online qualification). I will pay for Life in the UK Exam once Corona Virus outbreak in the UK settles down and thing goes back to normal.
I have bank statements, Pay slips, p60 etc...
My Wife does not want British Citizenship as she has been granted settled status and her Italian passport can get her everywhere. She has been living in the UK since 2013.
My question is;
- Am I qualified to apply for British Citizenship after holding Settled Status for 12 months? (In my case at May 2020)
- Is my time in the UK as student counts? keep in mind that I have been granted Settled Status, which is automated check of your residency depending on your national insurance contribution over the last 5 years. (in my case from 2015 till 2019)
(I had full time jobs since granted Permit Card in 2016 and as students I had part time jobs (20hrs / week) during study time and full-time jobs in summer as per my student visa conditions at the time.)
- Can anyone give any advice in terms of documents required or steps for handling and preparing for the application?
- UKVCAS service appointment when can I book?
Thank you for reading and hope to god everyone on here receive their approvals and have good night sleeps.
Stay Safe,
