Hi there,

I was about to send the citizenship application when in the documents part of the application I noticed section which says: ''You must have a permanent residence card before you can apply for citizenship''. From all the guidelines available I understood that I need Indefinite leave to remain OR permanent residence card.

I have been living in the UK for over 6 yeas and I have Indefinite leave to remain for over a year. However, the indefinite leave to remain is not a card, apparently it is linked to my passport and also available to view online only. So now I am really confused...

So my question is:
1) Do I need a UK permanent residence card even when I have Indefinite leave to remain?
2) If so, do I have to apply for UK permanent residence card now and wait another year to apply for citizenship?

btw: I used the online form from the GOV website with subheadings '' Apply for citizenship if you have indefinite leave to remain or 'settled status'''

Thank you so much in advance.

Niki
