Does UKVI require original physical documents?

Hi All,

I have applied for British Nationality and uploaded my documents via UKVCAS. Recently received an email saying that I am eligible for fingerprint reuse. Then I clicked the submit button in the upload section of my UKVCAS profile and submitted my uploaded documents. I am still waiting for further instructions about sending photos etc.

I need to go back to my birth country for personal reasons for about 2 months. Wondering:

1. Do I need to be in the UK while my application being processed?

2. If I leave, would UKVI ever ask for the original physical documents to be sent to them? If that is the case, I can still send them everything apart from my passport and ILR card as I need them to get back to UK.

Could you kindly help?

No.

HO can ask for the originals of any documents when required and yes, members have posted that they have had to send originals passports, which is usually what HO asks for when they ask.
