Hello,

Trust you are well and thank you for your reply I advance,

I have been living in UK since 2014 and I just received my ILR a month ago. On the Gov Website it says it is a must to wait 12 months after receiving your ILR to apply for citizenship. However, many friends who I have spoken to this about (whom are expert in immigration advise) said since I have lived move than 5 years in UK(I have lived 6 years) I do not have to wait and can apply right away. I was not able to find this information online, is there any one who can suggest if something like this is achievable.

Thank you

They are wrong.

If you are not married to a British citizen, you are required to wait for at least a year after ILR/PR/Settled Status before you can apply for naturalisation.

You also need to make sure that you meet other absence and physical presence (being physically present in the UK at the start of the five year period immediately preceding the date of the naturalisation application submission) requirements.
