Hi All,

My husband submitted his neutralisation application in March and had an appointment on 10th June 2020. He didn't upload the copy of life in the UK certificate since the check list didn't ask him to. As he hasn't got an application result yet, we are worried he will be rejected.

Is there any way we can contact the caseworker and resubmit the certificate? I contacted my caseworker by post when we applied tier 2 extension and the caseworker did reply to us. I wonder if we can do that for neutralisation application? Or do you think the caseworker will ask my husband for the certificate before he rejects my husband's application?

Not really as you wouldn't know who the caseworker is.

You are not making an immigration application now. Different rules apply to citizenship. You also cannot post anything to UKVI anymore.

If he completed the details in the form and used the same cert for ILR, it should be ok. If not, they will likely write to him asking for it.

Certificate Number.

Yes he did complete the details and used the same certificate for ILR. Thank you CR001!!!! That's a relief!!!!!

The checklist does NOT ask for the Life in UK. It was the same in my case. The online form only asks for the certificate number.
I still uploaded a copy of LIUK regardless, but I think even without it should be okay.

My husband finally received the approval letter by email. Thank you CR001 and CULLINAN!!

In the letter, it stated "due to Government advice relating to Coronavirus (COVID 19), ceremonies have been on hold. Although they are resuming, it is taking longer than usual to make ceremony arrangements, as Local Authorities deal with large number of ceremonies that have not been able to take place during social distancing restrictions. As a result, it may take longer than normal for you to receive your invitation to book and attend your citizenship ceremony." Does that mean my husband has to wait for the invitation first, even he wants to book a private ceremony?

Yes. It can take 3-5 months or more.

Different councils are taking different approaches to the citizenship ceremony, which of course they can only conduct after receiving the citizenship certificate from the Home Office. There were major delays in the past few months with the Home Office not sending the certificates to the councils to start with, without which they can't conduct the citizenship ceremony, either group or private.

Given that we seem to be heading for another lockdown, it is likely that the delays may resume. So patience...
