Advice needed please...

I came to UK 16 SEP 2009 tier 4 student visa and got my ILR 03 September 2019 via 10 years LR.

I'm due to apply for Naturalization and would please like to know what the requirements are. Are they the same as requirements for ILR LR Application? ie:

1) Current passport
2) Current Biometric Residence Permit
3) All previous passports
4) Life in the UK Test pass notification
5) English Language
6) Consent form

???

AN application falls under the Nationality law not under immigration rules. You have to fulfil certain requirements including residency requirements and good character. You should read the guidance first to understand the requirements.

I remember you from your ILR time so making things easier for you:

Assuming you are applying in your own right and NOT married to a British Citizen.
Assuming you apply on 5th Sep 2020.
Assuming you are a non-EEA national.

You will need to prove:
1) You have to stay on ILR for minimum 1 year which you have already. You are eligible since 3rd Sep 2019.

2) Prove 5 years residency preceding the date of application (your passport(s) covering the period and stamps will be enough to prove that).

Note: Date of application is the date you pay and submit.

3) You must be physically present in UK at the start of the 5 year qualifying period preceding the date of application. Lets say you apply on 5th Sep 2020, you must be physically in UK on 6th Sep 2015.

4) Residence:
Your qualifying period will be 6th Sep 2015 - 5th Sep 2020.
You must NOT be outside UK for more than 450 days in the last 5 years preceding date of application.
You must NOT be outside UK for more than 90 days in the last 1 year preceding date of application.

5) Meet LIUK and English Requirements.

6) Meet good character requirements.

Documents Required:
1) Passport(s) covering 5 year qualifying period.
2) ILR BRP
3) LIUK
4) English Requirement
5) 2 Referee declarations

Missing Passports:
Last year my passports (2x) were stolen on a flight Heathrow to Germany

I can see the above from your previous history.

IF you do not have FULL scanned copies/photocopies for the lost passport(s),

In that case, you will have to prove your residency by alternative method for any missing period (which your passport(s) dont cover) within your qualifying period.

e.g. employer letter, P60s, government department letters proving you were present in UK during that period.

Correction as stated above:

You are eligible since 3rd Sep 2020** not 2019.

Hi all,

I am about to submit my application and by my understanding only the 5 documents listed above are applicable to me. However, the document checklist is coming up as:


1) The passport

2) The degree certificate to prove the level of English language required

3) Proof of freedom from immigration time restrictions

4) Current Biometric Residence Permit

5) Proof of living in the UK for 5 years if applying in your own right or 3 years if applying as the spouse of a British Citizen

6) Two referee declarations

7) Most recent tax year account statement and corresponding HMRC tax return as proof of self-employment



Do I just tick the boxes for Passport, ILR BRP, LIUK, English Requirement and 2 Referee declarations which are applicable to me?


Please I need clarification on this before I submit.

3 & 4 is the same.
5 - You have to prove this with your passport and visa stamps OR alternative method as mentioned before.
7- If you are self employed, you will have to submit the document asked in the checklist.
The checklist is correct and you have to tick ALL to proceed.
