Hi All,

I have recently granted ILR and now I want to register my 9 months old Son(born in UK) as a British Citizen using MN1 route. While filling up the form I have following queries if anyone can answer them:

1. My son was born in Dec 2019. Now the application has a question 'Have you lived at your current address for 5 years?'. If I say no, form asks for further address and if I say yes, this won't be correct information as he is just 9 months old. What should I do there?

2. As referees, can I give details of my friends? Or is there any specific requirement.

3. I haven't applied for any passport for my son as I knew he won't be travelling until he has British Citizenship. He doesn't have any BRP or National ID Card. Now in Nationality section, should I mention my Nationality or anything else?

4. Related to point no 3, the document sections says 'If Mr XXX(my son) has a passport then provide this with your application. If Mr XXX does not have a passport then you must provide another officially-issued identity document. This could include an official travel document or national identity card.' Above statement has 'MUST' which makes it kind of mandatory document. My son has nothing apart from Birth Certificate. What should I do? Should I tick this box and Birth Certificate will fulfill this requirement or should I leave it unchecked?

5. Document section has 'Two referee declarations for Mr XXX(My son)'. What should be format for this document.

Please anyone help me with above queries.

1) Yes and proceed. HO knows child is only 9 months old.
2) Could be friends but one referee has to be who has engaged with the child in a professional capacity like health visitor, minister of religion etc.
3) Child does not need any passport or ID to register as BC. Only UK birth certificate and your ILR is enough. Child will take on your nationality.
4) Ignore N/A. This is a generic form.
5) You will get a link to download the Referee Declaration. Print. Paste child’s photo. Referees sign. And you scan and upload.

Hi all,

One more query. Once my son is registered as a British citizen through MN1 process, will he directly get the passport or do I need to apply for his passport once he is registered as a British citizen?

You will need to apply passport separately after MN1 is approved and you receive the certificate.
