Naturalization Application for kids less than 10 years old

Hi Experts.

I am filling up my son's naturalization application . He is 4 years old. Application form looks straight forward to fill but just bit worried about of providing the referee details.

1. Could the referee be my office colleague/neighbor/friend ( A British citizen) ?
2. is it mandatory to have one of the referee out of two as a professional person (A British citizen) in the child's case (i.e. doctor, Accountant, Health Visitor etc) ? or could i mention both two referees as normal British citizen(s) (but knows me and family very well) ?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

1) Yes. Someone who knows the child personally also.
2) One Referee has to be someone who has engaged with the child in a professional capacity e.g. Health Visitor, Minister of religion, Teacher etc.

Hi Cullinan

I apologise if something obvious I am trying to re-confirm and ask here. As I mentioned in my previous post(s) that I'm filling up the naturalisation application for my child (4 years old), the referee section in the online form (MN1) says something like this:

For first referee:
"Give your first referee's details. This referee must be the holder of a British Citizen passport (and either a professional person or over the age of 25)"

For second referee:
"Give your second referee's details. This referee should be a person (of any nationality) who has professional standing. This can include a minister of religion, civil servant or a member of a professional body such as an accountant or solicitor (who is not representing you with this application)."

Questions are:
1. Can I consider the First referee as asked above be my family friend/neighbour (a holder of British Citizen Passport) ? I am bit confused about the line 'and either a professional person'. what is the definition of professional person here?

2. is it right the Second referee as mentioned above must be the person who is engaged with the child in a professional capacity (i.e. accountant , solicitor, Health Visitor, Minister of religion, Teacher) but could be the citizen of any nationality ? Can a doctor (of different nationality; not British) be included in the list of referee here ?

3.I am really struggling to get the referee details who is engaged in professional capacity with the child as no one want to share the sensitive info i.e. passport number, DOB, address etc. Is there any alternate to convince Home Office regarding this ?

Best Wishes.

Thank you very much Cullinan. This is very detailed discussion and explanation you given in the post.

May I request you to correct me or guide me if something i misunderstood.

In my case (MN1 form - for child ):
1. First referee could be my family friend/neighbour (a holder of British Citizen Passport and either a professional person or over the age of 25). The professional person could be anyone from this list (https://www.gov.im/media/624353/listofreferees.pdf) right ?

2. Second referee must be the person who is engaged with the child in a professional capacity (i.e. such as a teacher, health visitor, social worker or minister of religion) but my question is could this referee be the citizen of any nationality ? if yes, then, Can a doctor (of different nationality; not British) be considered as a referee who engaged with the child in a professional capacity and knows the child personally as well ?

why i want to double check the point 2 above because in the Referee Declaration form
(https://visas-immigration.service.gov.u ... on_MN1.pdf) (for child applicant) its not clear whether other nationality professional is acceptable or not however for adult applicant it explicitly says that (see below).

"Where the applicant is a child applying, one referee should be a professional who
has engaged with the child in a professional capacity
, such as a teacher, health
visitor, social worker or minister of religion. "

"For an adult application, one referee should be a person of any nationality who has
professional standing, eg minister of religion, civil servant, or a member of a
professional body e.g. accountant or solicitor (who is not representing you with this
application)"

3. Unluckily if i didn't manage to get the referee details (engaged with the child in the professional capacity) you mentioned that "add a cover letter and show evidence of correspondence (if possible)". What type of correspondences/documents are acceptable? email conversation with the referee , any written note from the referee denying he/she cannot endorse the applicant due to some reason or something else.

Thank you very much again for your time and efforts you all guys put to correct and guide everyone on this brilliant forum.

Apologies for writing too much :?

Regards

1) Yes.
2) Yes. Any nationality.
3) HO is not strict when it comes to referees in case of young children. Simply explain in the cover letter. HO will believe what you say. Provide evidence as an email if possible (better option) if they refuse and arrange another referee then.

Great!
Thank you for your response.
Honest It’s is really a fudge in case minor’s application (providing referee involved in professional capacity with child).
Bit confusing language in :
Reference declaration form
And then in
Nationality policy : General Information- All British nationals doc ( page 9 Referees section)

But you really made it clear and I can proceed now. So finally I don’t need to providing any correspondence and covering letter to HO If a Doctor of different nationality got engaged with the child in a professional capacity and knows the child personally as well.
