Entering UK on a foreign passport

If a person who has received a naturalisation certificate leaves the UK, before applying for the first British passport, can they have difficulties reentering the UK later on their foreign passport? The logic behind this that as a UK citizen one should enter the UK only on a UK passport....

There is no such rule!
Except if you are a visa-national you will be asked about your visa - as a BC however you have unlimited right to enter the UK.
What is the reason for using the foreign passport.

Thank you, very helpful. I assumed that in case of double nationals, they should always enter their respective country on the respective passport.
I will be receiving the NC next week but wish to travel to the EU for Christmas and am concerned that if I apply for the BP immediately, they may not process it on time and I will be stuck in the UK without any passport. That is why I am thinking of leaving and reentering the UK on my EU passport and applying for the BP only in the beginning of January when I am back...
