Return of supporting documents citizenship application

Hi,

My brother submitted his application for British citizenship by descent and because he is submitting from abroad he had to send in the supporting documents, including his passport, to UKVI which they received on 2nd November. Does anyone know how long it takes them to return the supporting documents? Can it take them the time it takes to make a decision? I got my citizenship last year but because I live in the UK I just went to a UKVCAS office and they scanned everything then and there.
How long did it take for you to get your documents returned to you?

Thanks so much!

Generally UKVI keep the documents until the application has been decided.
However there's an option to ask for return of document - check out this web site: https://www.gov.uk/visa-documents-returned
No experience of this service as I never submitted original documents.
