British Passport Identity verification

Hi All,

I was going through the British Passport Application timeline to get an insight on their experience specifically on Identity verification. I've read the requirements but on the timeline it states Identity verification date, does that mean Passport authorities will contact countersignatories, and if not satisfied they can ask us to provide with a new countersignatory?
Not sure how many times these authorities are after such requirements, same details were provided during British Citizenship application and now again for Passport application.

Many Thanks

Correct - that's the identity verification.
Not sure how many times these authorities are after such requirements, same details were provided during British Citizenship application and now again for Passport application. Note these are two different processes - for naturalisation the referees vouch for your identity and whether you are worthy to be naturalised. And they could be questioned if your application was fraudulent.
Note HMPO could also ask you for an "identity interview" - purpose is to make absolutely sure you are the person who has applied for the passport. These are held at random - not everyone is interviewed.
Many Thanks
