Child applying for citizenship

I am naturalised as a British citizen and my wife recently had her indefinite leave to remain.
We have a 6 years old child and his dependent visa (tier 2) is due til next year. He is not born in UK. My question is do I still need to apply my son for ILR or can I apply him straight a British citizenship?

Child born outside UK (in your case) will have to apply for ILR before he/she can be registered as BC.

If you apply BC directly for the child, it falls under exceptional discretion which maybe refused and you loose the fees.

Thanks cullinan. I am just wondering whether my son can bypass ILR to save application fees. Appreciate your feedback anyway.
