Hi there,

I wonder someone give me some guidance please.

My one child have Irish Nationality as I have been living and working in Northern Ireland and on the child birth I did not have ILR. Now I have been holding British citizenship for 5 years. To get British citizenship of my son I think I need to register my child birth through MN1 form which cost me over £1000 before I can apply my son British passport.

My son age is 6 now and he hold Irish passport since birth, is there any way(European route) I can apply his British Passport and save this big fees for MN1 form?

Many Thanks for all your consideration and advice.

thanks

a) There is no "European route" to British citizenship. EU, other EEA and non-EEA citizens must all meet the same requirements (and pay the same fees) for British citizenship.

b) Any applicant who wishes to acquire British citizenship at any time after birth must either naturalise (typically after 18 years of age) or register (typically before 18 years of age) as a British citizen.

The only time when naturalisation or registration is not required is if the child was born a British citizen (typically by birth in the UK to at least one parent already settled in the UK or by birth to a British citizen otherwise than by descent abroad).
