Hello everyone
Merry Christmas to you all.
I am about to submit my application and that of my family for naturalisation and my daughter who is in college just told me yesterday that she missed her bus from school which we have paid for and just decided to take a tram without ticket and was caught by a ticket officer. They sent her an email with a fine of £50 with an option to appeal. She appealed and won the appeal giving her consideration as a first offender. The fine was downgraded to a warning and they asked her not to do 5hat again. Hope this will not affect her application.
I honestly don’t know why she took that kind of risk especially because we give her enough money monthly and she can actually reach us to get more money.
Can this affect her application at all, Should we declare it in her application. Someone said no that her daughter had same experience and they didn’t declare it. Kindly advice.

Was the fine levied by the bus company and did the case go to court? Can't imagine this goes on her record.
Just wondering whether it's similar to parking fines levied by private companies. Those or not declarable.

It was by the bus company. They didn’t take it to court. I also thought it should be like the normal parking fine.

I am assuming by “tram” that it was not in London.
What did the letter exactly say? Do you remember? When did it happen?
Not all penalty for fares could lead to criminal convictions, some are civil. However, in case of london underground- TfL abide by the Greater London Authority Act 1999 -
Schedule 17; The Transport for London Act 2008 - Part 4; and the Criminal
Procedure and Investigations Act 1996.
I need more information as to what the letter said. Was it a penalty fare notice OR Single Justice Procedure Notice??

It’s in Manchester and the letter says she has taken the tram without a ticket. She was given a fine of £50 with an option to appeal. She did appealed and the appeal was granted and the fine was downgraded to a warning. It is the RRS that gave her the fine. RRS means Revenue Recovery service

She was told verbally by the company ticketing officer to go to the website and respond and she did appeal it and it was granted. She just told me that now.

This could have led to legal proceedings if not dealt with promptly. Since, she dealt with it without court proceedings, she is okay. Nothing to worry.
The charge for a standard fare notice issued during an inspection is £100 and must be paid within 21 days. If you pay within 14 days of the date you received the standard fare, a 50% discount is applied, and you should pay £50.
If you don’t pay within 21 days, Metrolink will start legal proceedings to recover the money you owe and the amount due will increase.
Please wait 24 hours after receiving the standard fare notice before paying the standard fare. If you are considering appealing the standard fare, no payment should be made until the outcome of the appeal is received.

Happy new year to everyone on this very wonderful and helpful platform. I pray for health and prosperity for everyone in 2021.
I am now set to submit my naturalisation application and that of my family. I had intended to submit on Monday 4th and so I dated my covering letter and schedule for absences from Uk as 4th of January but I want to submit today so I can start to quickly look for appointments, everyday counts, as Ia m qualified to submit from 1st of Jan.
Do you think if I submit today it will have any adverse efffect on the application
Thank you

Happy New Year!
You can submit/apply today - not an issue - it's actually down to you when you apply, today, next year, whenever.

Just note that you will struggle to secure a biometrics appointment till 00:01 Tuesday 5th Jan now. If you look tonight till before Tuesday 5th Jan, system will show you appointments for weekend (28 days apart i.e 30th and 31st Jan) and the availability is almost zero - as mostly all centres are closed on weekends plus no option for free appointments anyways. You may get lucky though (if any cancellations- but harder to fit more people in the same group.. more chances if one is alone in the account) but most likely you will have to wait till 00:01 Tuesday to secure one for 1st Feb 2021. Free appointments (very rare) but only available on week days also.

You are right Cullinan. Been looking at all centres close to my postcode, no available appointments whatsoever even in premium and enhanced centres. Does it mean there is no hope for appointments till February. Does it mean that the centres are so busy or it’s just the COVID 19 issue affecting appointments.

Keep trying but most likely you will have to wait till 00:01 Tuesday 5th Jan to book one for 1st Feb. It is very hard to find cancellations for multiple people in one group. You have to be extra lucky for it. Normal appointments are running at a 28 day lag.

If I get appointment in February, can I travel out of UK between submission and appointment.

Yes you can. You (adults) only become British when you attend the ceremony. At that point your ILR BRP will be invalid and needs to be returned within 5 days after ceremony. Children become British effective from date British Citizenship is approved/date of certificate.

Ok Cullinan. Many thanks. I just got an appointment for 29th January now in Birmingham 70 miles away from me and it’s for £880 for the family at £110 per candidate. I will wait and see if more could be released over the night.

You mean you booked it already or only came across it?

If you book it once, you will not be able to see any availability then before you cancel first. And if you cancel you will loose £10/person admin charge (I think its £10/person and not £10/group).
You are 8 people, ideal would be to get free appointments to save around £1k!
I would suggest you keep looking through mid next week till Wed/Thursday (especially after midnight plus throughout the day). You will not loose much as you will only be pushed forward by 1 day (with each day passing) but may get lucky to find earlier appointments for Jan or free appointments. Worth trying, a little patience and constant monitoring maybe will save £1k!!

Croydon both centers are generally most generous on free appointments. Had seen some free slots even at 7AM on few days in October.

I would second that @mesn. Lansdowne Road Croydon usually has the best availability in my experience also (I went for a free appointment myself). Not sure about the current availability though.

My friend can see appointments in Lansdowne from 25Jan and Sunderland from 21Jan. All Paid though but should have some free ones at mid night on Monday.

If I was you, I would search every day till max 9th Jan 00:01 GMT. Otherwise book one on 9th Jan 00:01 GMT for 5th Feb.
You only will be pushed forward 3/4 days but in the next week you may get lucky to find earlier or free appointments.
