UKVI, UKVAS, 12 months period

Hello awesome forum,

I have two questions.

I'm a bit confused about what a "UKVI appointment" is - I found this on a recent forum post. My understanding was that I could submit my application online and the only appointment I would need to attend apart from the ceremony is the biometrics check (UKVAS). What is the UKVI appointment, when and how does it happen?

My plan is to apply at the end of March, and book a biometrics appointment for May. My question is the following: from when is the requirement to spend at least 275 days over the past year calculated: from the day of the application, or the day of the biometrics appointment?
So to double-check if the former, I can be abroad between my application and the biometrics appointment and not worry about exceeding the 90 days spent abroad in the prior 12 months of my biometrics appointment? (As long as that is met between the end of March 2020-2021?)

My question is the following: from when is the requirement to spend at least 275 days over the past year calculated: from the day of the application, or the day of the biometrics appointment? from the application date back.
So to double-check if the former, I can be abroad between my application and the biometrics appointment and not worry about exceeding the 90 days spent abroad in the prior 12 months of my biometrics appointment? (As long as that is met between the end of March 2020-2021?) correct - personally I would travel after the appointment - just to make sure in these uncertain times.

Vielen Dank für die Antwort!

So according to this site: https://katsgoneglobal.com/ukvcas-biome ... pointment/ UKVCAS is the biometrics appointment. And UKVI is just the people deciding upon the application. So there is only one appointment to present oneself: the biometrics appointment. Thank you.

"correct - personally I would travel after the appointment - just to make sure in these uncertain times."

You are right, but unfortunately that's not an option for me, I will have to risk it.

Thanks again!

UKVCAS are a commercial partner (outsourcer) of the Home Office/UKVI, dealing with the applications front end for immigration and nationality,
documents and biometrics mainly. UKVI is the Home Office organisation which reviews and decides applications in line with the relevant regulations and law.
