New born baby to Parents holding ILR and eligible to BC.

Hi friends,

I am on 10 years route ILR and eligible for naturalization.

we are blessing with baby in this month.
By default is baby becomes BC?

Yes, if born in the UK.

No, if born abroad.

Where was the child born?

thanks for the reply.

In uk, baby will arrive soon at any time this week. :D

here is my situation.

we are planning to go India in sept.

Father ( ILR and eligible to apply naturalization ), Not applying for naturalization for now but will apply end of year due to financial .

Mother (ILR Dependent).

as you said baby will become British citizen.

so I have no idea further steps from day 1 baby born in hospital.

You baby will be born British. You can apply for a British passport directly for the baby. For that you need baby’s UK Birth certificate and your original ILR BRP.

Note: Do NOT return your ILR BRP even after your own naturalisation as it is the proof for baby’s claim to British Citizenship. Instead, you should write a letter to HO to retain your ILR BRP for the sake of your child. Keep it safe.
