British Passport for UK born child - One parent with ILR

Hi All,
Greetings.
Request your help with below query,
1. Baby was born in UK on 09 Nov 2020
2. My wife has applied for ILR in Aug 2020 and received BRP in November 2020 with start date 10 Nov 2020 ( a day after baby was born)
I know in order for the child to be eligible for British passport, at least one of the parents should have ILR status at the time baby was born.
Is there a way we can try for British passport directly for the child or we should register (MN1) first and then apply for Passport?
Appreciate your help. Thanks

You said BRP date is 10th Nov. What is the approval date? Or is it the same? It is very close!!! Had your wife got ILR on 9th or earlier, baby would have been British by birth.
If approval date is also 10th Nov, you will need to register the baby first via MN1 route.

I suggest getting an SAR. If the ILR was granted on 10th, then your child is NOT British at birth and must be registered via MN1 first

Thanks for the quick response Cullinan.
By approval date, you mean the decision email? We have received the decision email on 10 Nov.

That is the approval date then. But as Zimba said, just to double check best to get a SAR.
You will have to register the baby first via MN1 even if it is a 1 day difference.
Sometimes BRP can be printed on a later date than the approval date. But if your approval email is dated 10th Nov also, most likely that is the date of ILR grant.

Hi Culllinan, Zimba,
One quick query, do we need to take Indian Passport before registering the child through MN1? as there were questions around nationality in the MN1 form.
Thank You
