What happens after the application is successful?

Hi all,

I have submitted my application in August and awaiting a response. They have emailed to say that it may take longer than 6 months as there is an issue with my biometrics.

Please could you tell me what is the process once the application is successful and naturalisation is granted?

I ask as I would like to travel to india on my indian passport in March and worried if a response is received while I’m in india.

Do I need to return my resident card (PR) and india. Passport after this or after I have the ceremony?

How long after the decision is given do we need to book the ceremony?

So basically trying to understand the procedures and timeline.
Thank you.

You are only British once you attend your ceremony. You get an approval letter and then a ceremony invitation. Until you have attended your ceremony, you are an Indian citizen holding ILR (note PR is under EU rules, you don't hold PR but ILR through tier 2 under the UK immigration rules).

ILR brp card is only returned after your ceremony.

There are currently delays for ceremonies. You have 6 months to attend the ceremony but you must be in the UK to do it.

Thank you for clarifying this. It is very helpful.
