Citizenship Oath/Passport

Hi

I have received citizenship approval letter from UKBA in December, however i couldn't book oath due to Lock down since Jan. One other reason is i will have to travel to India in May which requires OCI if i became British Citizen. So i couldn't try to book oath and thought of doing this after i come back in June. I was just told by Council that i will have to take Oath before 10th June if not they will send the application back to UKBA. Does anyone know what will happen if it goes back to UKBA?

I was thinking about alternative approach, where i will take Oath as soon as i can and take Passport and travel. If i can get passport in 2 weeks time. Is this possible in this pandemic timings? Also can i travel using my ILR even after i get Passport? Because i am going to apply OCI from India after i go there?

Why could you not book ceremony since Jan? Ceremonies are operational even in lockdown (majority councils). Or is your particular council not conducting ceremonies? Did you check?

Ceremony's are available but i have travel plan to India in May 1st week and Indian Consular was not working since March, hence i didn't go for ceremony. Also i will have to send my BRP as soon as i attend Ceremony. and i will have no visa to travel back to India.

If you will not attend the ceremony before the deadline (6 months after the ceremony invitation), the certificate will be sent back to HO and your application will be cancelled. You will lose the fees.

You will have to reapply in the future starting afresh meeting all the requirements on the application date, completing the same process and paying the fees again which will take 6-12 months.

Make an informed decision as you wish.
