Citizenship application query on how long it takes

Dear all
I wish you all are very well.
I want some advice from someone who has experienced something similar to my situation.
I have submitted for UK citizenship on October 2020 for me and my family (wife and two children under 18 years as refugees) through a lawyer and he told me this will take between 3 to six months.

Last month he sent to me an email he received from the Home Office saying that they can't finish my applications in six months and they need more time, he told me that this is normal because of the Covid-19 pandemic. He also said that I would receive the decision soon, but I haven't heard anything from him and I don't know what I should do?

Should I just wait or should I contact my lawyer and ask him to do something, I know he knows better than me?
I need some advice please.

Thank you.

What date you you and your family enroll biomterics?

Applying through a lawyer has no advantage on the processing time. The only thing it does is make you poorer.

It can take up to 6 months and often longer.
