Child Passport Renewal

Our DD passport has expired.
I am confused as to why we need to complete section 4 again - to confirm the child citizenship when this would have been done in the initial application.
If it needs to be completed which parent completes it?
My child was born after 30 April 2006 and I am a British citizen by birth as I was born before 01/01/1983.
So what do we complete in section 8?
My wife at the time of my childs brith was an American citizen. It seems like a fishing exercise to confirm what they already know.
