Hi Everyone,

I have received my ILR (set M- 5 year route). When can I apply for citizenship? I'm not sure as as I read, If married to a British citizen can apply immediately
and it also mentions 12 months after being granted ILR".
On the gov. Website it says:
"If you’re married to or in a civil partnership with a British citizen
To apply as the spouse or civil partner of a British citizen you must have lived in the UK for the last 3 years.
You’ll also need to have one of the following:
indefinite leave to remain (ILR)settled status under the EU Settlement Schemea permanent residence document to confirm you have permanent residence status.
If you do, you’ll be eligible to apply for citizenship immediately."

And

"If you have indefinite leave to remain (ILR)
You can usually apply for ILR after you’ve lived in the UK for 5 years.
To apply for citizenship with ILR you must usually have lived in the UK for 12 months after getting it"

Can someone please advice.

Thanks & Kind Regards.

- If you are married to a British citizen you can apply now - providing you satisfy all the requirements for naturalisation - you need to prove three years of residency, back from the date of application.
- If you are not married to a British citizen you have to wait 12 months until you can apply - residency period five years, counting back from the application date.
