MN1 adoption abroad, now in UK, help!

Hello!
I have a few questions about the MN1 process. Our case is a little different, hence the questions.. really hoping somebody can point us in the right direction!
I am an American citizen, living in the UK on a Settlement visa (5 year route to ILR). I am married to a British citizen. We have two children with American citizenship, also here on the Settlement visas.
Shortly before moving to the UK, while we were all living in the US, my husband adopted my two children, replacing their biological father on their US birth certificates. About 7 months later, we moved to the UK.
We would like to now, if possible, get British citizenship for our children through the MN1 process, however we’re not quite sure how to go about that. The various scenarios in the MN1 guide don’t cover our situation, and all the documentation about adoption seems to assume you were in the UK when adoption took place.
Can anybody point us in the right direction? We have been looking around for solicitors to help with the process, although, if it’s fairly simple to do it ourselves, we’d be happy to do it that way.
Thank you so much for any help you can give me!!
