My brother in law, who applied for asylum in the UK in 2011 was successful and given refugee status in 2015. Between 2011 and 2015, they had a child in 2013. They now have indefinite leave to remain in the UK after 5 years of refugee status and now want to apply for Naturalisation.

My question is, does they have to apply for naturalisation for the 8 year child , who was born in the uk or does she get automatic British citizen status?

Would appreciate your expert advise

thank you
shylady

No, the child is NOT automatically British.

They have to apply online on form MN1 to register the child as British and pay the relevant fee.
