Register for child currently living overseas

Dear,

My wife and I are holding ILR. We have a 3-year-old son born in the UK but left the UK in June 2020 to stay in Vietnam. My question is that whether it's possible for us to register his citizenship while he's in Vietnam.

I check the online application here and see that he needs to attend an appointment at UKVCAS to enrol biometrics. So it seems impossible, but also see some applications submitted from India in the Timelines thread. I'm confused.

Could anybody please help?

Regards,

Phong

Did you or your wife already have ILR when your child was born in the UK? If so he is automatically British born. You can then apply directly for his first passport.

The child was born BEFORE the OP got ilr.

The child was born before we got ILR. Well, we just got the ILR yesterday :).

I think of the following options.

1. Apply in the UK while he's still in Vietnam - how to submit biometrics?
2. Apply in Vietnam - is it possible? please advise where to start
3. Apply a visitor visa for him to come him then register in the UK normally. Is it accepted? Can he overstay while waiting for the registration process?
4. If Option 3 doesn't work, I guess I can apply Indefinite Leave to Enter but it's much costly.

Could you please advise?
