Remain in UK after renouncing British citizenship ?

I am a British citizen living in the UK. I was born in the UK and lived here for 30+ years.

I obtained a second (EU) nationality while living abroad. That nationality requires that I renounce my British nationality.

After renouncing British nationality I will immediately reapply for it via RS1. The other country will allow this as a route to dual citizenship (don't ask !)

My question is :
May I remain in the UK while the reapplication for British nationality is being processed ?

I would be cautious about this approach (of remaining in the UK without any legal right to reside).

The government's well-publicised "hostile environment" may cause issues.

I would suggest residing in the country where you are acquiring citizenship and then returning to the UK purely to submit Form RS1 and then leave again.

Then again, I am advising from a viewpoint of supreme caution and others may advise differently.

Thanks for that
I had understood from elsewhere that once 'in a process' it would be OK to stay.
The RS1 information pages state that you must not travel outside the UK/Channel Islands or Republic of Ireland while awaiting a decision which implies (I think) that it's OK/permitted to be in the UK.
