Passport almost expired for son

Hi,
I was following this forum for a while. I have applied and booked appointment for my ILR application. Realised that my son's Indian passport will expire before the appointment and tried to renew it, but no dates available before that. Is it wise to attend the appoitnment or to delay it until we get his new passport?
