Good evening,

I got my British citizenship by naturalisation back in 2018. This year my soon to be wife will give birth to our child.

The child will be born in Poland with one of the parents being British by naturalisation.

Few questions:

1) Do we have to be married in order for me to pass on the British citizenship?
2) Can I apply for child's first passport straight away or do I have apply for child's citizenship first using MN01 form?
3)Would the child be 'automatically' British?

Also, will be waiting for a spouse visa to be granted while awaiting child's birth. What would happen if we got the spouse visa granted and at the same time our child was born outside of UK. Obviously, it would take good few months before we could obtain child passport. I know that spouse visa allows certain amount of days for the applicant to move to the UK.

Kind regards,

1. No.

2. Passport directly.

3. Yes.

Please ask spouse visa questions in your existing spouse visa thread. The question isn't relevent to the British citizenship question for the child and vice versa.

No, provided you are named as the father on the birth certificate AND the mother is not married to anybody else at the time of birth of the child.

Apply directly for a first British passport, with the child's birth certificate and your naturalisation certificate.

Yes, the child will be a British citizen by descent automatically.

But their children (your grandchildren) born abroad will not be. British citizenship by descent is limited to one generation born abroad.

Yes the child can get a passport.

I am British Citizen my children were born in India, my wife Indian Citizen.
We have initially applied for Indian passports for both children and then applied for British Passports.

Applied from VFS Hyd

Applied on 27-07-2021
Again they asked for more documents on 13-10-2021
Attended the interview on 01-12-2021
Got passports on 21-02-2022.

Just make sure it will take 6 to 7 months.
