Hi Guys
I tried posting this question in other thread but it was loked so have to make this one.
I have a question regarding returning brp card after citizenship. I had my ceremony today and it all went fine but I have a plan travel this weekend which is only till 7th of Feb. I am travelling to turkey from UK and only physical document I have is my BRP card as my setteled status was issued online no paper copy or card was issued.
My question is I have put down my brp for visa purpose and now I am worried If I travel without it I my not be allowed entry in turkey or back in the Uk? on the other hand I have risk of getting a £1000 fine from the home office for not sending my BRP back withing 5 days.
Can anyone on this forum advise which will be the best course of action in this scenario.

Foreign governments won't know you are now British. In the absence of a British passport you need the BRP to board the return flight.
When you come back to the UK border you could already be flagged as a British citizen on UK systems, and they could retain the card then.
It's advisable to carry your naturalisation certificate (NOT a traveldocument) - British citizens cannot be refused entry to the UK - explain to the UK Border official. There have been no reports of people actually being fined for not returning their BRP - in the few years I've been on the board.

Note the certificate is not a travel document and wouldn't be recognised for entry to foreign countries - you did say you have a visa already for Turkey?
The certificate is only for the benefit of entering the UK.

This was my question as well and alterhase58 replied with experience.... On looking into forum there is no report for actual getting fine of £1000

Hi, I am in the same situation as you. Could you please give me more information about what they said to you on your way back to the UK? Did you have to pay any fees? I am a bit worried as I attended my ceremony yesterday and I am flying tomorrow. Totally unaware of the process after getting the certificate. Thank you.
