Naturlisation - Marriage Certificate

Hi,
I have applied for naturlisation but unable to locate marriage certificate. I am eligible without being spouse of British Citizen as I have been in the UK for over 8 years. Given I have already applied and need to submit/upload documents at UKVCAS center, do I need the marriage certificate or can I explain in a covering letter? Would it be rejected? I need to do biometrics and document verification in next few weeks so might not be possible to obtain a duplicate certificate in the timeframe. Thanks.
