Hi All,

Me and my wife hold British passport since 2008. We have been living in India since 2011.
Our son was born in India in 2013.

His application for first British passport was submitted in Mumbai on 19th Oct 2021. The same was received by HMPO Liverpool on 25th Oct 2021. Later on 7th Dec 2021 they asked for additional documents which we submitted.

Subsequently my wife was interviewed by HMPO via video call on 14th Feb 2022.

After that there is no communication from HMPO regarding the application progress.

I have enquired via phone, emails and in person at HMPO Liverpool but the only answer I get is that the application is under process/review and no timeline can be given for passport delivery.

Its been 5 months now and we are really worried and anxious.

Has anyone had similar experiences? Is there any way to speed up the process or know the exact status of the application.

Appreciate if anyone can share their experiences/advice.

I have applied for my daughter same way on 3rd Mar 22 & he same was received by HMPO Liverpool on 11th March and we not heard anything. I have also tried many routes to contact them.

Can you share what documents they asked for and question for your wife in the interview.

Finally our son got his British passport after 6 months !!!

Since its your daughter's first British, be prepared for such a long wait

You might have received an alphanumeric reference number from the local HMPO centre but that's not enough to track your application because HMPO Liverpool has their generate their own application number which is numeric only. First of all get that application number so that it will be easy to track in future.
Best way is to fill up the online enquiry form (https://www.gov.uk/passport-advice-line) with all details of the applicant.

For the children born in India they ask for following additional document if not already submitted with the application:

1. The Mothers passport at Time of Conception
2. The Fathers passport at Time of Conception
3. The Hospital Birth Certificate
4. The Hospital discharge summary
5. Antenatal Records

I got some questions from this portal itself and added lot more from my understanding. I will share those as a separate post.

Thank you for providing the list of questions. Congratulations for getting the child passport.

Just one question to ask: Once your wife interview is finished how long does it take for passport to be received. Do they send the passport immediately for printing once the interview is finished.

It's been long I am waiting for my family to come back to UK.

Hi Anubhav,

There are no set timelines. HMPO won't tell you when you'll get the passport after the interview.

You just have to keep on checking with them online or over phone and wait.

Best is to enquire at the HMPO office that is processing your application every 2-3 weeks. They have the latest information.

I can imagine the anxiety you have, I also had the same but there is no option than wait.

If travelling to the UK, then a British passport suffices. Else, check requirements of destination country.

The bearer/holder of a UK passport do not require a visa to enter into UK from abroad.

Hi Anubhav.

Yes i applied from India. Then i applied for an Exit Visa and was fined Rs. 50000/- for the baby overstaying. After speaking to FRRO in Goa they asked us to apply for a New Visa. They still charged us the fine Rs 50000/- for overstaying.Plus they cannot guarantee Immigration will allow the Baby to leave the country. How stupid is that.

Child was born in April, applied for the passport in July as we did not want to travel with baby yo Mumbai during Covid. Received passport in April 2022. Now they are penalising the baby for overstaying. It is not fair.

I have applied for my daughter passport in March and still waiting to get the passport although the application is approved by examiner there but don’t know how much time it’s gonna take in printing and dispatch.I am contacting the Liverpool team but they are not responding.

Hi, I am with similar situation from Kerala, India. My husband is British and I'm Indian with ILR. My child was born in May 2022 in India, applied British passport in a weeks' time, Since then they have asked a list of documents. For those who are about to apply please check this if you can submit the Aadhar card of the new born baby and a birth certificate with wet signature , this would help. Anyway, we have sent all the documents two weeks ago and now my Husband got a Teams interview invitation which will take place in two weeks' time. We are also concerned, since I have to join back to work in UK in December. Let me know if anyone can guide us , but this post itself is a good guidance tbh. Thanks

I have two questions to be cleared

1. How long it will take from interview to receive a passport?

2. What type of visa needs to be applied for the new born once the passport is being received? I understand for OCI application from the UK, they'll ask for baby's exit visa from India.
