Hi,

Looking for some advice here please. I have been in the UK since 2011 with my wife. We had a kid2 in 2018 when both of us were on visa i.e Tier 2 long term. I got my ILR in 2021 and planning to apply for Naturalisation or British citizenship soon. My wife has applied for ILR and pending decision.

Qn - Would my Kid2 have to apply for Naturalisation or british citizenship? Can kid2 apply straight for passport IF i get British passport?

Your British citizenship doesn't transfer automatically to your children. They need to be registered (not naturalised) using form MN1.

As the child was born in the UK, the child has an entitlement to register as a British citizen on Form MN1, as @alterhase58 has advised above.

The only time a child acquires British citizenship automatically is at the time of birth, if certain conditions are met.

Any time after that, even just the day after, the child has to be registered as a British citizen (i.e. the acquisition is not automatic).
