Hi everyone,

Could a kind person tell me exactly what documents I need to apply for UK citizenship? I also have a Bachelor's degree, so I don't think I need to take the B1 English language test because I think my degree should be enough. Could I be right about that?

Where did you get the degree?

I got the degree outside of the UK, but courses were taught in English.

You will need either an ECCTIS certificate confirming that the degree was taught in English or a B1 listening and speaking test.

Both will cost the same (~£150), and you'd likely get the B1 test results faster.

Are you spouse of a British citizen? - if so then residency period is 3 years back from application date, otherwise it's five years

Documents are normally as follows:
- Passport(s) covering residency period
- BRP
- Proof of English
- Life in the UK test
- two referee declarations

Note: Earnings/Employment/Address/Absences proof is not required.

Can a driving instructor act as a referee?

Are they an approved driving instructor? If yes, they can.

After I send in my application, do I still have to leave the country in December? How will this affect my application?

What do you mean by "do I have to leave the country"? You can if you want to, but applying for citizenship doesn't force you to leave. It won't affect your application (but probably best to travel only after you've submitted biometrics).

I mean for vacation.

You can go on vacation, no problem. As I said, possibly best to get the biometrics done before leaving.

British Citizenship application isn't an immigration application. You're free to travel.

Your immigration application ended at ILR. You're now free form immigration restrictions.

Hello, there is a section of the application for citizenship that has me a little bit confused. It is the part where they want the "referee form" to include a photograph of me with my full name and date of birth inscribed on the reverse of it by the referee. My inquiry is whether or not these forms can be sent to the Home Office by scanning them and uploading them online rather than sending them through the mail. And if it has to be scanned and submitted online, how will the Home Office know that the referees have written what they are required to write on the back of my photograph? Obviously this won't show the information if they place the photograph on the side where the referees have written on the form and then scan and submit it to the Home Office. Just wondering.

You upload your referee forms with your other documents - nothing is sent by post. The requirement to put your name on the back goes back to the paper form days, so any detached pictures could be traced back to the application form.
As the form and picture is scanned nobody would know if anything was written on the back. So no need to do this, or worry about it. Clearly the referee should recognise you from the photograph.

Hello , could someone kindly expand on the statement enclosed in brackets? "You (the applicant) must sign Part 1 consent, and relevant third parties must sign Parts 2 and 3, if applicable to your application." Since this is not a joint application and I am sponsoring myself, I assume that only Part one of the consent form pertains to me?

Additionally, I was unable to see a location to upload my documents on the online application, should this be done after payment? "Further steps" is the last option on the online application. Could someone please assist me in locating where to upload my documents online? It mentions at the bottom of the last paragraph that I must bring them to the appointment centre, does this mean that they will upload them there?

I am guessing it should show up after I click "Book appointment"? because I can't find "upload documents" on the last screen of the online application.
