Overseas Passport Application Straight After Naturalisation

I'm due to receive my naturalisation in late November. I'd like to go back to Australia for christmas so is it possible to apply for my UK passport while I'm in Australia?

Will they care about the "intention to reside in UK" or is that only a consideration for naturalisation?

I'd have to hand in my Australian passport so could be stranded there for an extra month, but that is fine with me as it'll be summer there!

Yes, the intention to reside will cause issues if you apply abroad. Passports abroad take long, you could be stuck there for much more than a month.

Travel with your naturalisation cert and return using e-gates. Apply for passport when you are back.

Is it your ceremony in November or are you only anticipating an approval??

Thanks,

I am happy to be stuck there for 2 months, but if intention to reside is a problem for passport then I would rather not risk losing my citizenship (or have passport denied due to intent failure)? Is that possible?

Yes, I anticipate having a ceremony in early november. Applied August 10th. Maybe I can make it before christmas?

The processing time for applications is 6 months at the moment. It's a very long shot to expect to be naturalised in November, it could very well be expected you won't hear back before the new year.

There have been two reported cases on these forums where people ran into issues in precisely this situation (naturalising in the UK and then applying for their first British passport from abroad) for precisely the reason that you mentioned (doubts about you meeting the future intentions requirement). It would be much better for you to apply for your first British passport from the UK.

Could that be from earlier during the year? Most timelines posted in this forum for submissions in 2022 May, June and July are coming in at 2-3 months so perhaps Home Office backlog has cleared?

Every application is different. 6 months is their standard time, so I wouldn't really plan to hear back before then. If you do, that's great, but you've already been advised not to apply for your first passport from abroad which was the main issue.
