Children passport outside UK

Hi all,

I am posting these questions on behalf of a friend   .

The person was born in the UK in 1976 and has never been in the UK.

He has just applied and got his first British Passport from outside the UK.

The person has 3 children born outside the UK at different ages now, 7y, 10y, 19y, and he is also looking to apply for all of them.

My questions are:

1- Would it be fine to just apply for the children's first passport directly using a different birth certificate (not a British birth certificate)?

2- The child with 19y is it still ok to apply or the age is above 16y will make a difference?

3- If anyone has got any experience with a similar case, please share.

Thanks all :!: :!: :!:

No personal experience though my son (BC) living abroad is currently applying for his children born/living abroad.

As I understand it:
1- Would it be fine to just apply for the children's first passport directly using a different birth certificate (not a British birth certificate)?
Yes, but as they were born abroad they need to provide the relevant documents proving father's citizenship, i.e. father's UK birth certificate, maybe grandparent birth certificate, etc - the weblink above will list which documents are accepted.
2- The child with 19y is it still ok to apply or the age is above 16y will make a difference?
Yes, 19y old is an adult, but also needs to prove his claim to citizenship through father, per 1 above. Refer to https://www.gov.uk/apply-first-adult-passport
3- If anyone has got any experience with a similar case, please share.
My son submitted: child UK birth certificates, his birth certificate, copy of his passport, grandmother UK registration (as BC) document.

As the father was born in the UK before 1983, he is a British citizen otherwise than by descent.

All his (legitimate) children born abroad are British citizens by descent. They can apply for a British passport with their own birth certificate, the father's British birth certificate and their parents marriage certificate.

Note that the children themselves will not be able to pass on British citizenship automatically to their own children (your friend's grandchildren) born abroad. Their children (your friend's grandchildren) will only be British citizens automatically if born within the UK.
