Hello
I can apply for British citizenship in December, but I want to have all my paperwork in order before then. How many weeks or months before I submit my application can my referees sign the declaration form?

3-6 months is generally advisable, not too much earlier, as they are supposed to have looked at your application materials.

Agree with the timing, probably best not more than 3 months prior.
Referees are not required to review the application and documents.

I thought referees were going to sign off on the applicants likeness once the biometric photo had been taken? They would receive an email from the Home Office with a link to do so.
Or did I just imagine it completely?

No, you need to upload referees declarations before your biometrics are taken. The electronic sign off of the picture happens for online passport application.

Thanks! Do I need to have the declarations of the referees uploaded before I submit the application then?

No, you upload them on the UKVCAS website after you applied (but before biometrics)
