Can a naturalised British citizen be a referee?

From the wording of official guidelines, it seems to me that as long as one is a British passport holder, and, of one of the accepted professions or over 25, one can be a referee regardless of the fact one is a naturalised citizen. In other words, there is no requirement to have been born British to be a referee.

Is my assumption correct?

I simply ask because I have heard people saying being born British is a requirement. Just curious to see if anyone here has been a referee, while a naturalised British citizen, in a successful application (Or the opposite, has anyone tried to be one, but refused as referee because not born British???).

Thanks.

You just have to be British with passport - never heard of that one has to be born British to be a referee.
Never been a referee myself, so far, and never heard of a naturalised British referee being refused.
Perhaps if you could ask the people where the requirement "British born" is specified?

Thanks.

I remember my friend saying it was a struggle to find referees because they had to be born British. This was 2018, I think. So either she was confused, or that was the rule at the time, and it changed? I really can't find anything on it, so I am just assuming she was just overthinking it, until someone shares some first-hand experience...

They were confused and definitely overthinking and misinterpreted something.

There has never been such a requirement. So no rule change or anything either.

So far as I know, being British born was never a requirement to be a referee for citizenship application

Thanks everyone. I have agreed to be a referee, and I believe my being a naturalised British citizen will not be a problem. I'll report back when the application is approved, for the sake of documenting it, and for future reference.

My cousin a naturalised Brit was a referee for a friend. Smooth sail.

Like everyone else has said, you just need to be British.
