Surrender of Indian Citizenship, British Passport

Hi All,
My child ( born in the UK ) , is now registered as UK citizen after my ILR application was successful.
I need to now get him a British passport and also get OCI status for travel ASAP.

i understand below are the steps
1. Surrender indian citizenship -- needs to be done within 90 days of registration as British citizen.
2. Apply for British passport
3. Apply for OCI card

my question are
1. Can i start steps 1 and 2 simultaneously? it does not seem like there is any rule against doing this. only catch ( and this is a big one ) both steps require the Original Indian passport and British citizenship certificate to be submitted to the relevant authorities (High commission of India / HM Passport services ) . Has any one got around this

2. British passport service normal processing is 10 weeks, will they hold the originals for the entire duration? and do they need all the originals as soon as the fee is paid? , or will this only be required once the application is picked up for processing?

3. LAstly for British passport is the 10 weeks just a published target , what are the actual wait times like ? , any recent experience.

thanks in advance
Ganesh

2. HMPO need the documents in order to start processing.
3. Please look at the passport timeline thread at the top of this forum. It appears many applications take less than 10 weeks.

Apply for the child's passport using the fast track service

You need the british passport before you can do the other processes.

Post your Indian surrender questions in the correct sub forum please. These questions are not relevant to the British citizenship sub forum.
