If child is UK born, you can go for a passport.
https://www.gov.uk/apply-citizenship-born-uk
You’re usually automatically a British citizen if you were both:
born in the UK on or after 1 January 1983
born when one of your parents was a British citizen or ‘settled’ in the UK

When you are at the stage of submitting the application you provide as documents child's UK birth certificate showing your name as well as your BRP card dated before child's birth date.
